Alternative for a Sliding Glass Patio Door with Something More Practical May 20, 2015 It may seem that a sliding glasspatio door is quite practical, but when you stop and really think about it, you realize how impractical it is. Any time you have to go outside to enjoy your outdoor living space, you have to push that sliding glass door to the side and maybe even the screen. If it’s gorgeous weather outside, you may have the door itself open and only have to step through the screen. Sliding the screen to the side, stepping through, and then sliding the screen closed again requires effort and if you are carrying food, and plates, or other items, it can make it difficult to do so. If you have the air conditioning, you certainly don’t want to leave the sliding glass portion open, so you’ll have to continually open and close it every time you go in and out of the house. There are more practical doors that you could install that lead to your outdoor living space. One of these is to install a gorgeous French door instead. A French door can be far more practical for a number of reasons. For the most part, it opens and closes just like a regular door. You can have the French door open outward, which makes it easier to go through the door when you’re trying to carry items outside, or you can have it swing inward. You could choose to have a screen installed as well, but this may not be necessary, depending on the situation. An outdoor living space should be enjoyed as much as possible. In order to maximize your enjoyment of that space, the type of door you have is going to be incredibly important. Consider other options besides the traditional sliding glass patio door and you will likely feel much more comfortable within your home.
