The Three Benefits of Low-E Film You Might Have Overlooked

It Can be Costing You a Lot during the SummerWhen you’re looking into new replacement windows for your Toronto area home, you will likely come across many terms. One of those terms is called low-e.

This is a type of film coating applied to the glass during manufacture. It is designed to cut down on the amount of ultraviolet radiation that penetrates into your house from the sun. It’s the sun’s ultraviolet rays that increase the heat inside your home during the summer, fade furniture and other items, and can dry out wood, such as your floor, gorgeous dining room furniture, and more.

There are plenty of benefits to choosing low-e film coating and here are three to consider.

Benefit #1: Reduced heat during the summer.

During the summer, when the sun is high and the temperatures are rising, you may have to close the shutters, draw the blinds, or close the curtains just to keep the sun from heating your home too much. With low-e film, you wouldn’t have to worry about that because it can cut down on a significant percentage of those UV rays penetrating into your home that help to heat it.

Benefit #2: It helps to protect your furniture.

If you have wood furniture, leather, or other types of furniture that can be directly impacted by excessive heat from the sun, having low-e film can be a great asset to protect it.

You still need to take care of your furniture, clean it, moisturizing the leather, and more, but the rate of drying out will significantly diminish when you have low-e film coating on your glass.

Benefit #3: Potentially reduced electric bills.

Not many homes in the Greater Toronto Area have central air conditioning, but many homes have window based air conditioning units in a bedroom, a living room, or in some other rooms in the house. As a result, if you had low-e film coating and the temperature inside your house was reduced as a result, you wouldn’t have to run those units as often, thus potentially reducing your energy consumption.
